When I founded Blink, I did so on the foundation of my core business principles - principles that I’ve honored my entire professional career: Build great sustainable solutions, deliver on your commitments, and always focus on customer success. With the help of a talented team, great partnerships, and my daily mantra in my pocket, I’ve been able to take Blink from a small business to an enterprise class open source digital consultancy. So, with the launch of our new branding we’re entering yet another new phase of the company. I’m proud to say that we’re engaged with some of the biggest enterprises, and building some of the most exciting solutions conceived on open source platforms with a focus on Drupal. Like any evolving business, the team continues to evolve too, and with that we’ve also added some of the most exciting talent in the industry to help us to take it to the next level.

I’m super excited to have recently joined Blink Reaction as a Drupal Developer. This is a new challenge for me as in my past, I’ve worked a *lot* with databases, having worked for Oracle and in my latest position, working for a startup named Akiban developing a brand spanking new database!

For years Drupal has been known for its powerful content management capabilities. Many large companies leverage Drupal for its rich features and vibrant community of contributors. More recently Drupal has caught the eyes of many developers as a viable framework for web application development. Enterprises shifting from a .NET development environment may find some of Drupal, PHP’s, and the LAMP stack in general a bit challenging to fully adopt.

Happy 12th Birthday Drupal! It may sound strange but in fact marking the birthday of notable code is not uncommon. Search the web and you'll quickly find birthday posts about Windows, Google and Wikipedia - which was also born on this day 12 years ago.

A stable, efficient local development environment is a bread and butter activity for web developers. A lot of effort is put into creating the right environment for the right application and maintaining consistency with production environments.

The smartphone and tablet revolution of the last two years has introduced not simply another platform for viewing web content, but a cornucopia of them. We have smartphones of various sizes and flavors, 10-inch tablets, 7-inch tablets, and for each, both portrait and landscape displays, as well as set-top boxes and game consoles thrown into the mix. (4,000 varieties of Android?! Say it isn't so!)

When I teach Blink’s Drupal 7 in a Day or Drupal 7 Site Building classes each month I invariably feel a shudder in the room when I mention the word Taxonomy. While many students are initially put off by the term they soon learn that the concepts behind the word as implemented in Drupal are their new best friends and probably the most important parts of building an effective web application.

Building calendars and upcoming events in Drupal has evolved significantly since the days of 4.6 and 4.7 and the storied Events module. You may be surprised - even caught off guard - to know it has changed significantly for the better only very recently.

Picture this: The average Facebook user shares around 70 pieces of content each month. While this sort of content creation for your blog or website may seem unmanageable, turning your site into a community of sharing, a forum where your “brand ambassadors” can post their stories, pictures or ideas, is an participatory way to consistently generate new content for your site. In the past, doing this meant a lot of custom coding. But this where Drupal comes in. With the slew of Drupal modules in existence today, you can “socialize” your site with minimal hard coding.

Members of the Drupal community have agreed that Drupal's codebase should adhere to a set of coding standards because standardization helps makes the code more readable. It also makes it easier for developers to understand and to edit each other's code.
