Enter Blink Reaction

Blink Reaction was contracted to build a Training Hub for the CareerBuilder Institute where sales people could view a searchable database of courses, build catalogs for clients, publish custom, branded catalogs, view sample curriculums, and more. Over 10,000 titles of courses and videos exist in the training library and are accessible 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. Blink was tasked with creating multiple ways to search the catalog, provide branding capabilities to each catalog, to develop e-commerce capability with vouchers, plus more. Blink built the CareerBuilder Training Hub using the open source Drupal Content Management System (CMS). Drupal provides a wide variety of modules for customizing and adding functionality to a website.

Sales representatives work with businesses to help them plan, build, and manage an eLearning environment. They offer course catalogs to companies to help them improve their employees’ subject matter expertise, industry knowledge, trade skills, and management techniques. These courses, carefully designed by leading industry specialists, deliver expertise required for new technologies, successful sales methods, effective work habits, foreign languages, and more. Courses are available at every level and can impact every employee. Catalogs can be created from the wide variety of courses in numerous categories, including:

  • Accounting
  • Communication
  • Computer Software
  • Entrepreneurship & Innovation
  • Environmental Health & Safety
  • Industrial
  • Insurance
  • Interviewing & Hiring
  • Leadership & Management
  • Life Balance
  • Presentation & Facilitation
  • Programming & Web Development Basics

When building catalogs, sales people search for courses to offer their clients by clicking on the main category of courses, which takes them to another page that lists the courses within that category. For example, under Programming & Web Development Basics, courses pop up for SQL, HTML, FrontPage, and more. Users are provided with a course description, length of course, skill area, and vouchers, which is how the courses are paid for. Clicking on a course takes you to a detailed description of the training. This can be saved into a catalog or printed as a PDF. Each main category can be filtered by keyword, course format, and language. For example, a realtor interested in taking a course on Alternative Financing in the state of Tennessee, can search on keywords Real Estate, Continuing Education, Alternative Financing, then choose the state for which this course should apply. A list of courses is returned that meet these criteria.

Each catalog lists the title of the course, description, targeted skill area, length of course, and number of vouchers required. Courses can be added or deleted from catalogs. The catalog can be shared online by assigning a URL, title, description, and expiration date. Chosen editors can make changes to the catalog. Catalogs can be customized with a unique look a feel or can be re-branded with a client’s logo, colors, etc. Multiple catalogs can be created and shared and courses can be dragged and dropped between catalogs. Final catalogs are exported to a PDF, which include a Table of Contents, course listings and descriptions, estimated time of completion, skill area, and course code. The PDF also links back to the online catalog.

CareerBuilder uses vouchers to pay for courses, providing a cost-effective and flexible payment option. Each voucher is one low fee and can be used towards any course. Businesses can apply the vouchers towards a large volume of a single title or low volume across multiple titles.
